The Band
Rise Against is a punk/hardcore band from Chicago, USA. Formed in the
fall of 1999 when Dan Wleklinski (guitar) and Joe Principe (bass), formerly
of Chicago's melodic hardcore heroes 88 Fingers Louie, teamed up with
fellow scene member and ex-.baxter. frontman Tim Mcilrath to plant the
seeds for Rise Against, a band that will undoubtedly make an indelible
impression on punk rock/hardcore music and its listeners. The addition
of Colorado import and former Pinhead Circus drummer Brandon Barnes,
solidified the band's lineup and allowed them to start playing out,
finish writing and record their debut album, The Unraveling. Originally
performing under the name Transistor Revolt, they released a self-produced
and self-titled demo in 2000, a year before signing with Fat Wreck Chords
to release their first two albums, The Unraveling, and Revolutions Per
Minute in 2001 and 2003. They later switched to Dreamworks Records and
recorded their album Siren Song of the Counter Culture.
However, Dreamworks Records was absorbed by the Universal Music Group
and Rise Against finally found themselves on Geffen Records a Universal
Music Group subsidiary, releasing Siren Song of the Counter Culture
in August 2004.
Their fourth album, The Sufferer & The Witness, was released on
July 4, 2006.
Rise Against‘s original lineup consisted of Tim McIlrath (vocals
& guitar), Joe Principe (bass & vox), Brandon Barnes (drums),
and Mr. Precision (guitar and vox), & recorded its debut album with
renowned punk producer Mass Giorgini.
Mr. Precision left the band due to personal
differences in 2001 and was replaced by Todd Mohney (now in „The
Falcon“). Shortly after the band signed with Geffen, Mohney
left and was replaced by Chris Chasse.
